I’ve always loved the concept of Advent Calendars. There’s something special and magical about those little treats hidden behind those little doors – and the idea of a secret little something to be unwrapped every day really is a wonderful way to build the excitement towards Christmas, not to mention a fun tradition as well!

As the years roll by some of these types of tradition can be lost when we grow up, and it seems a real shame to lose some of that magic and wonder. And really there’s no reason at all why something such as an Advent Calendar can’t be revamped and repackaged for grown-ups, crafty grown-ups… grown-ups like you and me!

So one day in November last year I dreamed up a fun idea for a event. I didn’t know if it would work, or if anyone would be interested. I approached some crafty friends, and others recruited themselves – everyone loved the idea! Behind the scenes I worked hard to put together something rather different and very special. After much organising, coordinating and planning, I’m really thrilled to finally bring to you a very special, very fun, very festive series! It was *hugely* popular, and so, by popular demand, I just had to bring it back again this year!

In case you’re wondering just how it’s going to work, here’s last year’s video (I’m afraid my filmmaker friend was unavailable to help in time for this year!) to explain it:

I’m so excited to be bringing you this event! I really hope you’re going to enjoy it as much as I am!!

Let’s get on with Day 5, shall we?!

I’ve got some of my very favourite designers lined up today to continue the fun! Just click on the door to reveal today’s surprise destinations and prize! Tip: you will need to do this from the blog itself, not from a feed reader or e-mail!

The door is a bit different this year (curse of moving over to WordPress!). So, now you’ve opened it, please use the image below to find your secret links! As you see, there aren’t any text links, but tap or click on all the decorations/presents in the image below and you will find your secret destinations! *wink*

Exciting right?! Isn’t it fun to not know what’s in store at the other end of those links?! Make sure you click each one to reveal the surprise and leave comments at the destinations to win!

And speaking of winning…

Today’s sponsor is The Ton! What can I say about this amazing company – they’re one of my favourites!! Their designs are so beautiful, unique and clever – I only wish my wallet would stretch to buying them all! And their owner, my dear friend Effie, is just the best! I’m so thrilled to have them sponsor the event again this year!

The Ton are generously sponsoring a $25 gift certificate to their store! With an amazing array of products you’re really going to be spoilt for choice spending it!

Now that you know what you can win, I’m sure you’re eager to head off to all those secret destinations to check them out! But before you go, some inspiration from me:

Happy Holidays Present Card by Taheerah Atchia

I have been swooning over the Poinsettia Garden stamp ever since it was released – I couldn’t wait to put it to use for today! I heat embossed it with gold glitter embossing powder then gently watercoloured some areas with Distress Ink.

I adhered some strips of shimmer cardstock over the panel to look like ribbon – then stamped that bow from the Grand Bows stamp set and added it over the top. Doesn’t it look so real?! Effie did a *fantastic* job designing this unique set!

I added a die cut tag which I stamped with the sentiment from the Holiday Confetti stamp set, and heat embossed some of the confetti onto it too! A little gold cord ties the tag to the ‘ribbon’ and then a bit of dimensional glue keeps everything nice and, well, dimensional!

It’s not a party without a prize – and with prizes every day there are several chances to win! Today’s prize is generously supplied by The Ton so you’ll definitely want to get your hands on it! Simply leave a comment on this post to enter! Don’t forget to grab the other surprise destinations from behind the door, and head over to them to leave comments there as well to improve your odds even more! You have until 7am EST on Saturday 31st December to leave all your comments!

Don’t forget the Advent Calendar Extravaganza runs from 1st-25th December inclusive so make sure you visit taheerah-atchia.com every day for fabulous inspiration and amazing prizes every single time! Merry Christmas!

  1. Ha, for a moment I thought I was looking at a present! THat’s such a fantastic design for a card! Love it, might have to steal it 😉

  2. I love to emboss and I wish I had done more with my Christmas cards this year. It’s so much fun and not as messy as glitter although you do have to be careful with the heat gun. When my niece was little I let her emboss but I used the gun. I let her get close enough to see it change when its heated up and she was so amazed! Actually, so was I when I first saw it. That’s when I fell in love with embossing. I love how its wrapped up like a package and it even has a tag. It’s beautiful and very Christmassy. Love it!

  3. Taheerah your card is just stunning!! I love how you used the distress ink to watercolor in touches of red with the gold!! It’s really just so beautiful ?

  4. I love the softness of the way you added color to the gold embossed stamp. The bow is amazing. I enjoyed the excursions to other sites too – lots of fun stuff and inspiration! I too had not heard of this company & they have some great stuff! Thanks for exposing me to them 🙂

  5. This card is the perfect combination of The Ton’s awesome background stamps and their famous bow stamps! It is absolutely beautiful!!

  6. I am so glad The Ton are back. I think they are my number 1 stamp company – I love their releases and basically would buy everything they sold if I could. Your card looks like a present, so cool. What a great idea for using their bows!

  7. Have to admit I only now learned about this company (took a break from crafting so obviously missed some things) – but wow, their designs are spectacular. Now I need to shop:-)

  8. Gorgeous background! Love the sparkly gold embossing! What a brilliant idea to add ‘ribbon’, a bow and a tag to make it look like a beautiful present! Fabulous Christmas card!
