I’ve always loved the concept of Advent Calendars. There’s something special and magical about those little treats hidden behind those little doors – and the idea of a secret little something to be unwrapped every day really is a wonderful way to build the excitement towards Christmas, not to mention a fun tradition as well!
As the years roll by some of these types of tradition can be lost when we grow up, and it seems a real shame to lose some of that magic and wonder. And really there’s no reason at all why something such as an Advent Calendar can’t be revamped and repackaged for grown-ups, crafty grown-ups… grown-ups like you and me!
So one day in November last year I dreamed up a fun idea for a event. I didn’t know if it would work, or if anyone would be interested. I approached some crafty friends, and others recruited themselves – everyone loved the idea! Behind the scenes I worked hard to put together something rather different and very special. After much organising, coordinating and planning, I’m really thrilled to finally bring to you a very special, very fun, very festive series! It was *hugely* popular, and so, by popular demand, I just had to bring it back again this year!
Eek! How fun does that sound?! 25 full days of surprises, inspiration and prizes!!
In case you’re wondering just how it’s going to work, here’s last year’s video (I’m afraid my filmmaker friend was unavailable to help in time for this year!) to explain it:
I’m so excited to be bringing you this event! I really hope you’re going to enjoy it as much as I am!!
Let’s get on with Day 23, shall we?!
I’ve got some of my very favourite designers lined up today to continue the fun! Just click on the door to reveal today’s surprise destinations and prize! Tip: you will need to do this from the blog itself, not from a feed reader or e-mail!
The door is a bit different this year (curse of moving over to WordPress!). So, now you’ve opened it, please use the image below to find your secret links! As you see, there aren’t any text links, but tap or click on all the decorations/presents in the image below and you will find your secret destinations! *wink*
Exciting right?! Isn’t it fun to not know what’s in store at the other end of those links?! Make sure you click each one to reveal the surprise and leave comments at the destinations to win!
And speaking of winning…
Today’s sponsor is Butterfly Reflections Ink! This fantastic and growing store has loads of your favourite papercrafting supplies, plus a few exclusives too! This is a fantastic home-grown business headed up by my awesome friend Vanessa – not only does she give excellent customer service but she’s also a wonderful person who totally ‘keeps it real’! I’m so thrilled to have them sponsor the event again this year!
Butterfly Reflections are generously sponsoring a $25 gift certificate to their store! With an amazing array of products you’re really going to be spoilt for choice spending it!
Now that you know what you can win, I’m sure you’re eager to head off to all those secret destinations to check them out! But before you go, some inspiration from me:
I love creating cards that mix supplies from various companies! Here I couldn’t wait to pull out the Reverse Confetti Smitten Mittens set and create some festive mittens!
I heat embossed the mittens with WOW! embossing powders (that mint and pale pink combo again – I just can’t get enough of it!). A little bit of the detail is lost due to the pale colours and the glitter, but I’m alright with that as it allows my sentiment to stand out! I fussy cut out the mittens and cuffs, and edged the mittens with some gold ink. I adhered some awesome gold ribbon to the reverse of my mittens to keep them together. 🙂
Behind my mittens is an awesome starburst! I created this by partially inking up the Time Warp stamp from Neat & Tangled and it worked really well! The little snowflakes may be something you recognise (they were on Day 17’s card! *wink*) but they look much softer when inked in kraft!
A little bit of splatter, some inking on the edges of my card panel, and a label maker sentiment (love that mine had a heart symbol!) and that finished up the card nicely!
Don’t forget Advent Calendar Extravaganza runs from 1st-25th December inclusive so make sure you visit taheerah-atchia.com every day for fabulous inspiration and amazing prizes every single time! Merry Christmas!
I hope you love this event just as much as I do! I would love to know what you think of Advent Calendar Extravaganza! Do you love the format? The secret destinations? The endless inspiration? I bet you certainly love the chance to win prizes! Please make sure you leave a comment below! Thanks so much for stopping by – I’ll see you back here tomorrow!

Oh my goodness Taheerah, this is beautiful. The pink is gorgeous and I love the starburst behind it, it really is showy!
A great job!
Love the colors, love the sparkle! These are just the sweetest , coziest mittens! And as I’ve said before, I love the Advent Extravaganza–perfectly done in every way!
Love the pink and green combo! l so want to jump out of my chair and go see if my label maker has a heart symbol. I would, but I came and sat down because I need a pain break, and it is SO hard to resist. I kind of doubt it, though, because mine is a vintage dymo label maker I found at a thrift store. I had seen some sentiments done this way and loved the look, so I snagged it! It even came with some extra tape. Score for me, and score for you for this card. Thanks.
Darling card. Love the sparkle

The pink mittens along with the sentiment make me think of my new granddaughter just born the other day!
YES! Love this! The tinsel is the perfect way to finish your sweet card.
This settles it. I need more colors of embossing powder! Love your card today! So soft & cozy!
Love the yummy mittens. Thanks for this fun blog hop
Just stunning!!! I adore that embossing powder combo you used, so lovely!! The touches of twine and stamping in kraft really add to the vintage look of the card. This is easily one of my favorites this month. Thank you for all of your hard work putting this together – it’s been such a fun month seeing whats behind each door each day and hopping along! Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
Stunning!! And I have to agree…LOVE the color combo!
So adorable. Mittens are actually warmer than gloves. Your fingers help keep each other warm and cozy! Your pink and mint pair are so feminine. Love your background and that label maker sentiment is fabulous!
The mittens are such a great idea with the twine keeping them together. An old tradition, as are mittens but it brings thoughts of such wonderful things like the variety of snow activities and hot chocolate with marshmallows when it’s time to come inside. Your card created all of these wonderful thoughts just because of the mittens you put on the cover. To me that’s one of the purpose a card should evoke in the person…happy places and happy times. Thank you for a terrific example!
Taheerah! These are darling mittens!!! [you do know I cannot resist my mittens!] LOve them all glittered in pink!
