I’ve always loved the concept of Advent Calendars. There’s something special and magical about those little treats hidden behind those little doors – and the idea of a secret little something to be unwrapped every day really is a wonderful way to build the excitement towards Christmas, not to mention a fun tradition as well!
As the years roll by some of these types of tradition can be lost when we grow up, and it seems a real shame to lose some of that magic and wonder. And really there’s no reason at all why something such as an Advent Calendar can’t be revamped and repackaged for grown-ups, crafty grown-ups… grown-ups like you and me!
So one day in November last year I dreamed up a fun idea for a event. I didn’t know if it would work, or if anyone would be interested. I approached some crafty friends, and others recruited themselves – everyone loved the idea! Behind the scenes I worked hard to put together something rather different and very special. After much organising, coordinating and planning, I’m really thrilled to finally bring to you a very special, very fun, very festive series! It was *hugely* popular, and so, by popular demand, I just had to bring it back again this year!
Eek! How fun does that sound?! 25 full days of surprises, inspiration and prizes!!
In case you’re wondering just how it’s going to work, here’s last year’s video (I’m afraid my filmmaker friend was unavailable to help in time for this year!) to explain it:
I’m so excited to be bringing you this event! I really hope you’re going to enjoy it as much as I am!!
Let’s get on with Day 12, shall we?!
I’ve got some of my very favourite designers lined up today to continue the fun! Just click on the door to reveal today’s surprise destinations and prize! Tip: you will need to do this from the blog itself, not from a feed reader or e-mail!
The door is a bit different this year (curse of moving over to WordPress!). So, now you’ve opened it, please use the image below to find your secret links! As you see, there aren’t any text links, but tap or click on all the decorations/presents in the image below and you will find your secret destinations! *wink*
Exciting right?! Isn’t it fun to not know what’s in store at the other end of those links?! Make sure you click each one to reveal the surprise and leave comments at the destinations to win!
And speaking of winning…
Today’s sponsor is Waffle Flower Crafts! With a mix of quirky, trendy, and funky designs they’re sure to help you create fun and unique cards! They are headed up by my awesome friend Nina, who is one of my Gallery Idol alums and a really talented designer in her own right! I’m so thrilled to have them sponsor the event this year!
Waffle Flower are generously sponsoring a prize pack worth $36! You’ll definitely have fun with this prize!
Now that you know what you can win, I’m sure you’re eager to head off to all those secret destinations to check them out! But before you go, some inspiration from me:
I decided to change it up a bit today and create some fun shaped shaker tags! I had a blast putting these together!
I stamped the sack image from the Special Delivery stamp set onto acetate using Versafine ink (selectively inking it so I didn’t get the rectangle in the middle), then stamped one of the sentiments from the Peace On Earth set. Next I heat embossed everything with black embossing powder. This was the most time-consuming step due to removing all those stray flecks! I then used my Fuse tool to trace round the shape of the Special Delivery die, leaving an opening so I could fill it with sequins! These particular sequins are a discontinued variety from Lawn Fawn that I’ve been hoarding saving for a special project!
I punched a teeny hole in my shaker to thread through some sparkly cord, and attached a tiny tag die cut using a PTI die. The front of the tiny tag is stamped with one of the sentiments from Special Delivery, and one of the stars from a sentiment from Peace On Earth. The reverse got a little treatment too, with a teeny ‘to’ and ‘from’!
I decided to change it up a bit for my second tag!
This time I stamped the bag and sentiment onto white cardstock and fussy cut it out before making my shaker shape as before. This was certainly easier and less time consuming that heat embossing on acetate, but I think I prefer the all-clear tag! The shaker filler this time is from Lucy’s Little Things, and the tiny tag had the same treatment as before – but for some added fun I added some jingle bells to this one too!
I love how these turned out! I may have to make more of them!

Oh my gosh, these are to stinking’ cute and they are a shaker tag too! I’ve never seen a Shaker Tag before but when I finally make my first shaker card, and I hope it will be soon, I might have to make a tag or 2. What a great idea for a bunch of ties. I am in love! This is so amazing!

Whoa, that is a fabulous idea! I am not quite sure where exactly you cut the opening with the Fuse – and then how do you close the bag so the sequins don’t fall out? I can’t imagine how long it took you, but the results are incredible.
I love your shaker tags!!! What fun!!!
Oh, my! Your shaker tags are adorable!!! Thanks for the inspiration and chance to win. 😀

At first glance, I thought you made little tags from shrink plastic (which would be just as fun as the shakers!). These are so precious!

Taheerah, you’ve done it again: created an amazing project that has me in dazzled delight! Seriously cute little shaker bags! Now I’m thinking about how I could make batches of these for my niece’s and nephew’s Grade 1 and day class pals! I’d have to make about 50-60, but oh what fun they’d be….and, of course, I’d need ‘boy’ sequins *grin* Oh, and a fuse tool, too! LOVE today’s packages…off to see what’s behind those cool decorations…
Hugs~c

Oh what great shaker bags! And they are really bags too! I keep eyeing this fuse tool wondering if I would get enough use out of it to justify its purchase but you just gave me another reason. These would be great decorating mini album rings, hanging from parcels, all sorts of places. I love your projects!
Love your choice of using a gift bag image for the tag (perfect for present giving). Thanks for sharing your great ideas with us:)
