I’ve always loved the concept of Advent Calendars. There’s something special and magical about those little treats hidden behind those little doors – and the idea of a secret little something to be unwrapped every day really is a wonderful way to build the excitement towards Christmas, not to mention a fun tradition as well!

As the years roll by some of these types of tradition can be lost when we grow up, and it seems a real shame to lose some of that magic and wonder. And really there’s no reason at all why something such as an Advent Calendar can’t be revamped and repackaged for grown-ups, crafty grown-ups… grown-ups like you and me!

So one day in November I dreamed up a fun idea for a event. I didn’t know if it would work, or if anyone would be interested. I approached some crafty friends, and others recruited themselves – everyone loved the idea! Behind the scenes I worked hard to put together something rather different and very special. So a month later, after much organising, coordinating and planning, I’m really thrilled to finally bring to you a very special, very fun, very festive series!

 

Advent Calendar Extravaganza is -the- festive event of the season! This ‘hop with a twist’ was dreamed up by Taheerah Atchia and features surprise destinations each day! Joining in the fun with Taheerah are over 60 special guests – each serving up some fantastic Christmas inspiration! Just like an Advent Calendar, you’ll never know where you’re going to be visiting next until you ‘open the door’!

I opted to use the *beyond* amazing Holiday Bows set for this creation – those 3D bows are amazing!!

I stamped them onto Shimmer Cream cardstock for added pizzazz, then used the same inks, with a little water added, to add some watercoloured shading for an even more realistic look!

Mounted onto my base with some Pinflair Glue Gel, the bows pop with dimension. Some trademark splatter (I use it enough for it to be one of my trademarks, right?) and a sentiment from a Papertrey ink set and this baby is ready to hit the town!

  20. I think that you're a genius. Using shimmer cardstock is the best idea yet for these fabulous bows. I love them too but hadn't thought about that…brilliant idea. The addition of your shading is perfect to make them pop off the card. yes, I do believe you can call the spatter technique your signature. This has been such a great hop, you know you're going to have to do it next year, too.

  40. Oh my…how realistic are those bows, with their 3D gorgeousness! WOW! I admit: The Ton is new to me so after enjoying today's extravaganzas, I'm going for some window shopping.   43. I love those bows!:)) I agree, that Holiday Bows stamp set by The Ton is wickedly unreal! They look so 3D, I thought they were real bows at first!:)) That is simply a must have. You could do a neat optical illusion trick an a gift wrapping to fool the receiver. I'm sure they'd be equally amazed by this bows!:))
