Hey everyone! Happy Saturday!
I’m back with my final day’s homework for the Pattern Play class.
Day 5 looked at different ways to manipulate patterned paper – from folding and weaving to trimming out and creating embellishments. It was the final one of these I decided to focus on today.
I decided to use this paper from the Amy Tangerine Ready Set Go collection:
(NB: this paper was an exclusive in a Studio Calico kit, so I’ve only been able to include a snippet from a screenshot, this paper is 12×12). Fun huh? This would make a great background in its own right – but I had other ideas!
I trimmed out several of the speech bubbles and was going to layer them all together. But then, I had a thought.
Have you ever noticed that speech bubbles look a little like quotation marks? No? Just me. Alrighty then. But to me the bubbles did look like that, and so I ended up with this:
What do you think? Crazy right? lol!
I selected some of the bubbles I’d trimmed out and sprayed them with Heidi Swapp Colour Shine mists in Primrose and Tropicana Teal. I had also trimmed out speech bubble down to make it slimmer and edged it with Smokey Shadow ink to give it its edge back.
I adhered the bubbles to a Harvest Gold card base which I had splattered with the same mists. I stamped the sentiment from Wonderful Words: Hello using Versafine Onyx Black ink and Versamark, and heat embossed with WOW! Clear Semi Dull embossing powder.
I then added a little strip of washi tape (just ‘cos I was feelin’ it) and a few sequins. Check out those sequins – something different about them? They’re patterned! I covered them with the same washi tape then adhered another sequin on top so they still looked like sequins! I even pierced the holes back in (you know me) so they looked authentic!
With all this speech bubble goodness going on I just had to enter this into the Moxie Fab World Speech Bubbles Challenge too!
Well, that’s it for this class. I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed it and how many great tips I’ve picked up. I definitely won’t fear patterned paper again!
I hope you have a great weekend! Thanks so much for stopping by – I would love it if you left some love before you got on your way!

Hey Taheerah! Thanks for linking this up to the Speech Bubble Challenge in the Moxie Fab World! I'm so glad you joined in on all the fun! 🙂
Wow customized sequins?! Only you would do that! But aside from that, absolutely love this card. Everything about it so sweet and happy..from the colors, the speech bubble "quotation marks", the patterned hello with the matching patterned sequins! And the splatter!! Always love seeing your splatter in cards!
Love your card, I would have never thought to use them, but now I see them in a whole new light!
Had never thought of them as quotation marks, but that is ingenuous,
Love your card.
BLOWN away that you made patterned sequins! That is so crazy. And so totally you. So impressed with your attention to detail. And, that you see quotation marks from speech bubbles … OK, yep, I'm with you. Love how you cut them down and then added the border back. Super post!
